In simple terms, silencing is the act of
reducing noise to an acceptable level for the location or working
conditions surrounding the noise producing equipment. Maxim’s money
saving line of stock silencers readily solves noise problems of many
applications.
The two main types of exhaust silencers
are chambered silencers and packed silencers. While the chambered
silencers are effective in reducing low-frequency noise, the packed
silencers are most effective in reducing the high-frequency noise.
Sometimes we combine both types for a "super-critical" silencer for use
in extreme situations.
As a general rule, a silencer should be
installed close to the machine on which it is used. The silencer should
be supported independently. Normally, flexible connectors are used to
provide for expansion to minimize vibration.
Maxim products are the toughest, most
durable in the industry. No one comes close to matching the experience
of our sales and engineering staff. Whatever type of noise pollution
problems you have, we can design the perfect silencer to suit your
needs.
Custom or special designs and packages
are available. We offer a full line of optional accessories for
silencers and exhaust systems to meet your specific requirements.

Description |
Uses |
M
Series/
MUL |
Chamber type silencers provide the
best noise control across the entire audible range. The basic
design incorporates non-resonant side tube arrangements to
permit passage of the exhaust gases from one chamber to another.
Available for side inlet exhaust connections. |
Internal combustion engines, blower
intakes & discharges, vacuum pump discharges
|
MD
Series |
Compact design is engineered to
provide a “critical” grade of attenuation while minimizing space
usage. Excellent application for packaged power and process
skids where space is a premium. |
Internal combustion engine exhausts |
MSA
Series |
Spark arrestor silencers have
application in marine service, refineries and other hazardous
environments. These are chamber type designs. The retention of
hot carbon and soot particles minimizes danger and helps to
provide a cleaner area and atmosphere. |
Internal combustion engine
exhausts, high efficient spark arresting capability |
MT
Series |
Straight through silencers have an
unobstructed passage through the silencer with no reversal of
flow. The MT series is best used in applications where low
pressure drop is the primary consideration. |
Internal combustion engines, blower
intakes & discharges, vacuum pump discharges |
MB
Series |
Highly efficient in acoustic
design, used to reduce the noise radiating from blower piping or
blower opening. |
Rotary positive blower intake &
discharge, centrifugal blower intake and discharge |

Marine Wet Exhaust |
MP
Series |
For wet marine engine exhaust
applications. Water is injected upstream of the silencer in
sufficient quantity to reduce the exhaust temperature to a
maximum of 200o F. |

MO
Series |
Compact all stainless silencer
designed for small boat use where weight and space are at a
premium. |
